14 May 2010. Human Rights Watch published a 47-page report based on four months of field research in Bujumbura and four rural provinces. The report documents various instances of violence, one of them fatal, carried out by and against members of political parties as a means of settling scores. With few exceptions, the police failed to investigate thoroughly and to date nobody has been prosecuted.

This is only one of a number of reports published in the last few days by HRW. Others include ‘I lost everything’ on unlawful destruction of property in Israel, My so-called emancipation on youth that find themselves homeless in California and Costly and Unfair which takes on the US detention policy.
