13 August 2010, Cheshire UK. Police attending a crime scene did not chase thieves escaping from the scene, out of consideration for the perpetrators' health and safety.

A gang raided a motorbike showroom and sped off on three powerful motorbikes worth over GBP 20,000. Officers saw the gang making their get away, but did not pursue the thieves because they were not wearing helments. The Officers did so on superior orders.

Greater Manchester Police later stated that they were following national policy, which gives clear guidance that motorbikes should not be pursued if the rider is not wearing the correct safety equipment, because of the higher risk of injury to the rider.
